Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Guest of Honor at Expo 2020-Dubai


AMMAN - His Excellency, Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), had been invited to participate in the Egypt Pavilion at “Expo 2020 Dubai” by both Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and Dr. Mona Yahia, Head of the Egyptian Patent Office, as a guest of honor.

At the panel on "Intellectual Property and the Knowledge-Based Economy” Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh delivered a video message, in which he expressed his pride in the role of Egypt's leadership in the field of intellectual property protection.

Through his message, he emphasized the importance of encouraging innovation, and then protecting it until it transforms into an economic product. He also pointed out that many major institutions, while based on one invention, their revenues exceed the budgets of several countries combined.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh addressed the positive role that TAG.Global plays, through more than 100 offices around the world, in providing support for innovation by delivering a wide range of services, mainly directed to benefit research and development, as well as innovators’ intellectual property rights, which encourages them to continue creating; thus contribute to laying the foundations of the knowledge-based economy.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed the importance of moving from teaching to learning, a principle established by TAG.Global through Talal Abu-Ghazaleh University, the first university in the world that does not allow the student to graduate without creating an invention, as the measure of success is the processes of invention, not just passing exams.

Participants praised the topics addressed by Dr. Abu Ghazaleh in his speech, where Dr. Mahmoud Saqr stressed that the strategy of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research aims to maximize the utilization of available resources, as well as to establish local, regional and international partnerships with big organizations such as TAG.Global.
Confirming Dr. Abu Ghazaleh's statement that patent offices in Egypt and Saudi Arabia have become comparable with the world's biggest offices, Dr. Mona Yahya reiterated that the Egyptian Patent Office is one of 20 international WIPO certified examination centers worldwide, serving scientific research, innovation and intellectual property in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa.
