31-Oct-2019

RAMALLAH – The Palestinian Minister of National Economy has appointed Mrs. Raja’ Jawa’dah as a new Trademark Registrar, and some new practices related to trademarks have been introduced in the West Bank.

The changes in trademark practices have been set out to comply with current Trademarks Law in the West Bank. The new practices are summarized as follows:

1- An original legalized POA should be submitted along with the application.
2- An Affidavit should be executed by the agent and submitted along with any POA executed before 10 years.
3- Late POA filing is not applicable.
4- A change of agent application should be filed along with any application (renewal/recordal) if the application is not filed through the agent of registration.
5- The terms “retail services & wholesale services” are not acceptable in class 35; however, the term “demonstration of goods” would be acceptable in accordance with the 10th edition of Nice Classification.

Furthermore, the Palestinian Minister of National Economy has appointed a National Committee headed by Mrs. Jawa’dah for drafting a new Industrial Property Law in Palestine.
